Community Service & Outreach

Cross cares for its community

Cross is regularly and actively engaged in service and care for our larger community. While many such opportunities exist, these especially are lifted up for now and through early 2012:

Holiday Food Baskets MANY thanks for those that helped to provide 16 families with Thanksgiving food baskets! The next holiday food basket distribution will be for Easter, when food is to be at the church by Palm/Passion Sunday, April 1. On that day, the Easter baskets will typically be provided for 8-12 families. (Sign-ups for bringing donations will be held several weeks before.) To suggest a family for a basket, please call the church office. During the Christmas season, special monetary collections will enable Cross to provide gift cards to a number of families as well.

Community Suppers Cross joins with St. Ronald's Catholic Community to host a monthly community supper, free to anyone in the church or surrounding community. Dates at Cross for upcoming suppers are on these Thursdays: April 23 and May 31, 2012. Serving is from 5-7pm. Suppers at St. Ronald's are typically on the 1st Thursdays of the month. MCREST (Macomb County Revolving Emergency Shelter Team) During the 3rd week of October, Cross hosts about 55 MCREST guests. These homeless individuals and families will be housed, fed, transported, and generally given a safe haven for the week that we host them. Over 100 volunteers will help with food preparation, meal serving, laundry, dispensing meds and bus tickets, staying overnight, and transporting children to schools and adults to such places as jobs and doctor's appointments. Penny & Clarence Van Haverbeck coordinate this very large project.

Adopt-A-Road clean-up along Utica Road, Blood Drives, and Habitat for Humanity "builds" are other regular service events involving many people at Cross.
